After being irrelevant for a number of years, Notre Dame, the nations media darlings, finds itself in the 2012 BCS Championship Game. Alabama on the other hand will be going for two in a row and three in he last four championship games. These two schools are the richest in terms of history and past championships. Notre Dame holds a 5-1 advantage in the six games they have played.
On paper these two teams match up fairly well. As with every game the battle will be won in the trenches. Winning the line of scrimmage will be of utmost importance for both teams. Offensively I think Alabama’s line will win that battle opening up limited holes for the backs and giving AJ McCarron time to throw. There will be pressure from the Irish’s ends and linebackers spots so the tight ends and backs will have to pick up their blocks well in throwing downs. The secondary for ND will have to play their best game of the season for sure and try to contain Amari Cooper and friends. This will be a tall task for their secondary. Alabama should be able to run the ball on the fourth best run defense in the country because of the front line. Most close games can be decided on field position. Alabama has a slight advantage here having the better punter but Alabama’s special teams play has been iffy at times. The Tide will need to be consistent with punts, coverage and fielding ND punts. Turn overs will be key in this game. Neither team can afford the interception or fumble. One drawback for both sides is the PAC-12 will be the officials for the game and they like to throw flags for holding. Alabama will have to beat the refs (wait and see) the Fighting Irish and leprechauns that seem to sprinkle lucky dust on the Irish when they play Alabama,……. Final score,… Alabama 28 Notre Dame 13,…… Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
